Environment Policy

PRL is committed to maintaining Christmas Island's unique and sensitive environment whilst contributing to its economic development. Christmas Island is predominately National Park (63%) which comprises rainforest, major seabird colonies, largest known land crab population, pristine marine habitats and a number of endemic species.

PRL pays a Conservation Levy in lieu of carrying out rehabilitation within its lease areas.  The levy is used to fund the Christmas Island Minesite to Forest Rehabilitation Programme (CIMFR), which was launched in 1989 to rehabilitate high priority areas of the island and protect endemic species.  Environmental Policy
